When A2W dropped this freestyle he changed the spinning game forever.  He took spin tricks and gave them a creative edge and street flair that simply wasn’t being done by anyone else at the time.  He didn’t stop with just spin tricks, though.  This clip showed a plethora of new freestyle tricks that shocked and awed freestylers everywhere.

This was taped in Phoenix during NBA All-Star Weekend ’09. We were down there to battle it out for a StreetGodz competition. I’ve had a few requests to see some footage from the weekend so here you go. This is just a small teaser of the footage from the weekend.

I’ve seen both of these guys live and they can really rip it up!  But don’t take my word for it check them out live at NBA Jam Session for All Star weekend ’09 in Phoenix.

Check out Italy’s Da Move crew as they put out an impressive live performance on national TV.  They demonstrate a variety of tricks including three ball dribbling, breakdance moves and flow freestyling.  It’s always great to see freestyle getting this kind of exposure.  Good work Da Move!

So first off, I’ll get to what most of you probably want to know – who won. Kamikaze took the competition, although everyone gave amazing performances. The crowd judged the show, and they were feeling Kazi from start to finish. I’ve got crazy respect for Kamikaze, every time I do a show with him he never fails to shock me. He always comes with new moves, combos and his one-of-a-kind style. You can say that if the whole competition was a poker tourney, Kamikaze has what it takes to trump the other participants poker hands.
……….Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I’m going to rewind a bit and tell you what happened just before the competition. We all got some tight gear from Protégé a new up and coming shoe/clothing company. When we first got to the venue we did a little interview for a cameraman, I got to wear one of those little microphones that goes under your shirt, so that was a life defining moment for me (OK, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, haha). We also bumped into some familiar faces. We talked to Trikz and Tommy Baker for a bit, and I saw Circus and said what’s up to him. Before we went on stage Soulja boy performed and there were all kinds of girls going crazy, haha. After Soulja Boy took some pictures with some fans we were up. Read the rest of this entry »

Check out Grip’s perfect street performance as he executes both one and two ball moves with skill and ease.

Who or what inspired you to start freestyling?

When I’d work on ball-handling it was a way to prevent boredom, when you spend hours focusing on improving a certain aspect of your game you need to find new ways to challenge yourself. Personally I can only do ball-handling drills for so long, I always found enjoyment in trying different dribbling moves, and saw it to be a good creative outlet.

Over the last 5 years or so, you’ve been on of the most copied freestylers in terms of moves, combos and style. What do you think about so many people doing your moves?

Well there have been people doing this before me, and I have been influenced by many so I can’t take that credit. But I’ve always benefited from the lack of originality in streetball. If you want to be viewed as elite in whatever you may do its important to separate yourself. I’ve always tried to capitalize on what people weren’t doing.

Goosebumps’ Notic 2 freestyle was and still is regarded as one of the best freestyles to date. With a combination of Jay-Z, Jer, and one handed finger tip dribbling this free is no doubt a classic.
