Over the last year France’s Brisco has taken the freestyle world by storm with his innovative “flexiball” brand if freestyling. With his freakish flexibility, amazing ball handling, and unique approach to freestyling this kid is not only hot now, but one to watch out for in years to come. Brisco took the time to answer a few questions for freestylecentral.com and dropped a fire new video to go with it -
SNAKE : Who or what inspired you to start freestyling?
BRISCO : hum…first i was a streetballer, and watching a lot of mixtape and videos i saw a lot of freestyler and started to do it, but it was
first in order to practise my handles for streetball.i liked to reproduct hot sauce move without defender,c-stan inspired me
too, but i think the men who really inspired me is goosebumps ! when i saw him for the first time i was like crazy !!!
after i started to freestyle every day because my court was often empty, so i decided to practise lonely : just me and my ball …
SNAKE : How long have you been freestyling for?
BRISCO : I freestyle since the 2006 summer,so i’ve been freestyling since for 3 years now, but i think i’m really in the “freestyle movement”
and started my carrer since the 2007 summer .
SNAKE : Tell us a bit about how Parazit and Street Style Society got started.
BRISCO : Parazit ( name that we took from YONG-C,parazit was his old crew before to be in united street ballers
: we are the second generation of parazit ) started in 2006 with the meeting of lil-ouf and move masta, after what we decided to create a streetball team.
francky and storm came in the crew two month later.
our team today is most know as a freestyle team than a streetball one, and we all started freestyle after streetball, because
it was a the begining a way to get better know and paid (doing some street show and private show): with freestyle our reputation
growned faster !
street style society (created by sean, andreas and ice the flow) before to be associeted with parazit was more a freestyle soccer crew,
they only had one bball freestyler (ice the flow).
we meeted them in 2007 and started to often training with them, we evoluated together and it was like an exchange of skills and
mentality with them.
since 2008, parazit is officialy associeted with street style society: we are the basketball freestyler team of S3.
soon we will make our big return in streetball…
SNAKE : Tell us how you become involved with those groups.
BRISCO : first i met lil-ouf and move masta in 2006 by internet before to see them and ball with them,
then storm and francky came in the crew and i started to be regulary with everybody , balling, chiling , having fun etc…
in 2007 samy and I met Sean ,andreas, and ice the flow with who we started to have some good freestyle relationship, pratcise with them,
and started to create a coordination and a state of mind… i think our state of mind make us a bit different that the other crew:
all the street style society crew is a “street crew” and use to practise with breakdancers, in the street, doing some street shows
very often (something like everyday for exemple in summertime) , that’s as our show’s experience grown , and we can say that
street style society is more a crew of “direct live performance” than internet stuff performance …
SNAKE : You’re one of the more creative freestylers on the scene right now. How do you come up with your moves? Where did the idea for the “flexiball” style come from?
BRISCO : It’s simple : I’m always trying to search new move ! inspiration can come from everything! some times i’m just working on a
keys combo during 5 days, and sometimes, it’s like a revelation! the move comes himself easy! i think i don’t have the same
way to think and to train my creativity of the other freestylers, and that’s maybe the reason of what some find me creative…
Flexiball was born when i find the move “le bras cassé” (the broken arm) in 2007, i discovered in me an prodigious natural flexibility
and tryed to exploit it.
i justed mix this speciality with my freestyle and really tried to link the ball with my flexible moves and not to separate
them. i think some freestyler like leiki (who glue the ball on his foot and breakdance) are doing some great think, but i think
the ball got to be more alive with the move : that’s why i’m trying to do with the concept of flexiball!
i don’t want to every flexible man can do what i do : i really mix flexibility with handle…
then i started to pratcise my flexibily everyday seven day a week, doing some stretching and all kind of possible exercices,
hard work paid, then i found the name flexiball :a new concept is born…
a lot of breakdancer like benji for exemple, inspired me too in my style.
SNAKE : You recently won a freestyle competition. Tell us a bit about the competition, and what it was like to win it.
BRISCO : the competition was a freestyle tournament mixing freestyle soccer and freestyle basketball (no rules, just free)
and the winner won a 1000E price.
the level was very high with some professional freestyler and the jury was a very professional one
with some musical artist, breakdancer, and professional freestyler (sean the world champion of freestyle soccer and andreas
the france champion)
i didn’t expect to win, even if i really worked hard to it.
when the jury said the final decision it was like a magic moment!! all me friend was jumping on me and everybody went crazy
after i took the price and the trophee, i think it was one of the best moment of my carreer ,if it’s not the best!!!
SNAKE : What are some of your major goals as a freestyler?
BRISCO : my major goals are to travel all around the world, discover a maximum of country with my freestyle
my final goal it’s to live of my freestyle, to make it my full time job, and represent my crew to the fullest!
after i would like to get more and more flexible, and make grow the flexiball style to the fullest with my creativity,
and why not make some show with only some flexiball moves in!
i would like to take part of the streetgodz movement during the next competition and i hope, maybe win it lol, to be
reconise by every freestylers of the world !
SNAKE : What do you do for practice and how often?
BRISCO : practise depend of the situation : sometimes i practise lonely at home ,doing my moves and combos
for the next show, or try to find some new moves…
and sometimes i practise with street style society in some freestyle underground session,
we show to us our new moves, news combo etc… the feeling is realy good i love to practise with
them there always is a really good feeling betwen us (as you can see in some extract of those session in
the flexiball video)
and to finish, i practise on my creativity in my bedroom, when i’m inspirate i just take my ball and
having fun.
SNAKE : What kind of moves or other things are you working on right now?
BRISCO : right now, i’m working on technicals moves of freestyle (spinning , upper, every kind of freestyle)
and of course on my flexible possibility !
but i don’t tell you more about this lol, that’s a surprise…
SNAKE : Who are your favorite freestylers right now?
BRISO : hum… i think there a lot of freestylers who are still in shadow and hard working all around the world,
but if i have to choose one freestyler : i would say andreas (from street style society)
: first because he showed me personally some INCREDIBLE STUFF MOVES AND COMBO!! and he’s a very complete freestyler
able to entertain perfectly in soccer freestyle and basketball ! his creativity is one of the best on the planet too,
and he’s always on the sound !
SNAKE : If you could do a freestyle battle against anyone, past or present, who would it be?
BRISCO : fot the past : it would be francis bruun lol , i think it could be fun and this guy is a true legend, an icon of freestyle!
for the present : i would like to battle snake because i think we are the two top flexible freestylers on the planet and it would be
fine to compare our style .
i would like to battle kyle too, because he’s one of the top french freestyler i really don’t see him often …
a tournament in may will oppose us in avignon (france)…
SNAKE : Tell us something most people wouldn’t know about you.
BRISCO : i don’t know what to say lol , i’m a simple guy , relax and cool and i like to have fun .
i’m still a student so i can’t be a 100% freestyler , i go to school 5 day a week from 8.00 am
to 6.00 pm !!! so some days it’s hard to practise i don’t have a lot of time…
SNAKE : What’s your advice to new freestylers?
BRISCO : first , be yourself, and to try to copy too much because i think that it wouldn’t
make the freestyle movement advance! you got to find your style, your own moves remix, you have
to create a state of mind, don’t be like everybody, be original!
and we see more and more freestylers play with 2 or 3 or 4 ball , it’s great but i think it would be
cool to see more 1 ball stuff : this is the base!
i see too that too many freestyler are in their world and prefer to be an internet star
than a real world star, to be a good freestyler you have to work on your live performance,
to be a good showman is a very important element of freestyle.
SNAKE : Is there anything else you want to say?
BRISCO : shoutouts to my crew parazit and s3 !! to every kind of artist in the world, i think we’re all in the
same way : looking for inspiration ! shoutout to my family and my friend , peace .
