Manic will be droppin the “1988″ DVD shortly, featuring freestyles from Clown Prince, Mad Skillz and Last Chance. CEO, player and director of “1988″, Clown Prince, took a minute to answer a few questions about the DVD for me, check it -
Snake:
First of all thanks CP for taking the time to do this interview and congrats on finishing up “1988″, the trailer looks dope.
cp :
thank u thank u thank u ur far too kind
Snake:
haha, so tell us a bit about the DVD, what can we expect to see, particularly the freestyle fans, what are they gonna like most about this DVD?
cp:
well the freestyle fans is deff goin to like mad skills the most, i mean hes 1 of the top up and comin stars in this freestyle game, and what they’re really goin to realize is , this kid does it all…..handles…shoots…new in game tricks….real ball….freestyle……there gonna get opened to a new side
Snake:
OK, and who else all has freestyles on the mixtape, and what can we expect from them?
cp:
myself and last chance also have a freestyle, you know me i dont gas myself up with freestylin cus thats not my cup of tea…….but i got some sweet shit in there i wont front….i got a couple of them moves that the “freestyle” world gon like
cp :
last chance…anybody that knows him and seen his work knows how he get down….so expect that with an overall better look and production, cus i got a chance to really sit down and film him through a photographers vision
Snake:
That’s one thing I wanted to dicuss actually. Did you do all the filming and editing of the freestyles?
cp:
Yes, with the exception of mine of course, lol but i did all the scriptin, planin, filmin (and with my free helped guide the kid on how to film the angles) editin, song choice, the whole works.
Im an artist first…and i do this for real……being able to do something nice with the ball is a bonus, i mean im not trying to go to the nba, im trying to win an oscar.
But, i cant disclude Kyle and MWP they helped film Mad skills angles, they held it down with the 2nd and 3rd angle….and also gave in some really nice input, which became an overall classic.
Snake:
OK, and what’s going to make these freestyles great from the editing and filming standpoint?
cp :
i think i did somethin new with it, during the freestyles is a small interview blended in, so your watchin some ill moves while getin to know the hooper as a person, and ive never really seen any1 do that in a mixtape. I didnt wanna just do a regular standard INTERVIEW on the tape…so i thought of a way to blend the 2 together and i think it came out great
Snake:
Nah, me neither, sounds kinda like parts of the movie Planet B-boy.
cp:
i wanted to see that actually, never got a chance to.
Snake:
So who has the dopest, most original single freestyle move on the mixtape if you had to pick one?
cp :
mad skills….easily….he does this for real, that takes nothin away from myself or last chance because we both also have originals…..but skills hands down.
Snake:
OK. How long are the freestyles about? And what type of beats can we expect?
cp:
1 and half to 2min? i think…no longer then 2minutes….u know how i get down, 9th wonder dj premiere,
and the thing about that….so many ppl have used 9th wonder but i got 1 special beat, and im shocked and thankful no one has used
Snake:
OK, always nice to hear some hidden gems on a mixtape.
cp:
my production is tight, sound wise, my ears is in tuned to hip hop.
aint no dipset, lil wayne on this, all that watered down rap u hear in the clubs aint on this jawn
Snake:
So it seems that you have a real clear direction for this mixtape. After people watch it what do you think will be the thing that distinguishes “1988″ from other DVD’s?
cp:
its ruggedness, when u see this, you would think it came out during the vol.3 era….its just raw and real…..nothin corny….not blindin effects all the time to cover up wack footage….editin is simple but still ill….soundtrack, its an overall good product
most stuff droppin, the overrall product aint tight
me and caution talked about this…..for example…streethandles dvd footage was crazy…but the editin wasnt up to par….UPH had a buncha new moves and ill editin, but thats all it really was..a trick-tape…thats cool thats what they do….but this dvd shows everything….new moves, real ball, drops, dunks, soundtrack ill, editin ill
Snake:
OK. Are there any secret surprises for the mixtape? Other than the golden tickets, lol.
cp:
lol secret suprises as in what? what would u consider a secret suprise
Snake:
Something on the mixtape that people wouldn’t expect to see or hear, maybe something you did with the editing, someone we wouldn’t expect to see, etc.
cp:
lmao the way i did the intro is a lil different, theres 1 scene that people will be like “nigga wtf?” but if you understand the name “1988″ and the theme, then it’ll make sense ina creative way, but i wouldnt call that a suprise tho, as far as SUPRISE GUEST, nah….we dont need no big names on our shit.
Snake:
OK, well that’s all I’ve got for questions. Is there anything else you’d like to say?
cp:
Yeah beyonce lookin madd good on TV right now…got damn.
